Northville's Farmers Market Has Two Thursdays Left, and This Year There's a River Across the Street

What is left at 550 W. Seven Mile Road once the farmers market closes? The 2026 season of the Northville Farmers' Market runs through Thursday, Oct. 29. This year, the walk out of the market ends at the south entry of a 10-acre riverfront park that opened June 17.

That changes what the address is for. Seven Mile has been where Northville shops on Thursdays. Now it is also the south door to the restored Rouge River. That door stays open after the last vendor packs up, and the holiday calendar already sends people back to the same lot in November.

Two Thursdays, One Address

The Northville Chamber of Commerce runs the market every Thursday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Today, Oct. 22, is one of the two market days left. Next Thursday, Oct. 29, is the last. The season opened May 7, which makes the 2026 run 26 Thursdays long.

At the park's ribbon-cutting, Mayor Brian Turnbull told WXYZ that the market draws about 3,000 people to Northville every Thursday, and that "now they have someplace to recreate and enjoy life out there, too." This is the first market season to close with that park across the road.

In his July 7 community update, the mayor described the setup. The Downs section of the Riverwalk is open, and its south entry is right across from the Chamber's farmers market. You can cross from the produce tables to the river in one short walk.

What Sits Across the Street

The park is the first finished piece of the $350 million Northville Downs redevelopment by Hunter Pasteur and Toll Brothers. Building it involved digging up a river that had been under cement since the 1960s. WXYZ reported the park cost $19.6 million. City and developer funds were joined by Wayne County American Rescue Plan dollars and money from EGLE, the state environmental agency.

Here is what you find on the far side of Seven Mile:

  • Pedestrian bridges, walking and cycling trails, drinking fountains and bike stations, all connected to downtown Northville
  • About 2.5 miles of walking space, counting sidewalks and park paths, by the mayor's estimate
  • 1,400 trees and native plants along the riverbanks, according to the mayor's July update
  • Two 5-acre bioswales and a floodplain pond. They take in water from the Upper and Middle Rouge River, the Randolph Drain and Johnson Creek to reduce flooding downstream in Wayne County

The park opened June 17, so this is its first autumn. Nancy Darga is a landscape architect, a founding member of Friends of the Rouge and chair of the city's River Restoration Task Force. She spoke to WXYZ about how fast the river responded once it was open to the air:

"Look at it now. It has sinuosity. It has ripple pools. It has root balls that are anchoring the shores in a natural way. It has riparian plants, 9 species of fish already."

Closing day ends the market's season. The ripple pools and nine fish species carry on after Oct. 29.

A Market Thursday, Sequenced for Late October

Today and next Thursday both reward an early start, because the market closes at 2 p.m. Here is one way to use Oct. 22, the busier of the two days:

  1. Morning at the market. Arrive after 8 a.m. at 550 W. Seven Mile and shop before the midday crowd.
  2. Cross to the Riverwalk. The south entry is directly across the road. Follow the paths along the river and over the pedestrian bridges toward downtown.
  3. Stop at Center Street. Cannelle, the French-style bakery at 156 N. Center St., held its grand opening in September 2025, as Hometownlife reported. The Skeletons Are Alive displays stay up downtown through Oct. 31.
  4. Evening at the Community Center. Alive in Spirit, a Day of the Dead celebration, runs tonight from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Northville Community Center.

On Oct. 29 the route is the same, but there's no evening program on the downtown schedule. That leaves the walk back along the river as the last stop of the market season.

The Calendar Through Nov. 22

Around closing day, downtown has a dense Halloween weekend, a quieter early November, and then a holiday weekend that brings people back to Seven Mile. Back to Seven Mile, and Farther North

The Santa 5K row shows the change most clearly. Three weeks after the market's last Thursday, the race starts from the same 550 Seven Mile address. The mayor's July update calls this stretch the Northville Community Market Area. It is also home to Northville's Original Cars & Coffee, which Alexander's Custom Clothiers and the mayor started in 2019. It runs from 8 to 10 a.m. on the second Saturday of the month.

The same update counted 58 townhomes and 12 houses sold in the Downs development. The Postal Service had just installed 48 mailboxes for new residents.

The park is also set to grow. In June, WXYZ listed the work planned for the next one to two years:

  • Two more Riverwalk sections north of the park, with partners including DTE and SEMCOG
  • A link to Oakland County's new 9 Mile pathway project
  • Parallel parking, drainage improvements and $1.6 million for better park access

The mayor told the station the restoration helps connect regional pathways that include Maybury State Park and Hines Drive. The next scheduled crowd at the market's address is the Santa 5K at 9 a.m. on Nov. 21.
